FanDuel officially replaces GambetDC as the sole sports betting provider in Washington, D.C., following approval from the DC Lottery. Residents and visitors gain access to FanDuel’s platform for sports wagering with a simple registration process. The transition aims to improve revenue generation and provide a superior user experience in the capital.
An official statement from the Office of Lottery and Gaming (OLG) reveals that FanDuel has now been given the nod after the DC Lottery approval which came on March 9, 2024. Effective now, residents of the District of Columbia and visitors to the city are now able to use FanDuel’s sports betting app and website which have today been introduced, providing them with the chance to register and place their bets on a variety of sports events.
The FanDuel entry weeds out OLG’s own GambetDC, which is by far the worst performer. The revenue targets were very disappointing. Initially, it had been planned to operate a monopoly market with no need for third-party companies, but this has given way to a new view for the OLG following several years of unimpressive performance.
Individuals who want to register for FanDuel can get the app on the App Store or Google Play. They can also do so directly on the website. Signing up is not a problem, but for existing GambetDC customers, any funds in their accounts must be withdrawn by 15th October 2024, as there will be no automatic transfer to the FanDuel platform.
The transition to FanDuel is expected to provide an extra source of revenue and ensure that bettors from the capital have improved access to sports betting. OLG Executive Director Frank Suarez stated that the development was in his favor, with the benefits brought by the move including augmented city revenue that would be crucial in funding county programs.
The OLG will, however, continue to think that it is the right thing to do, currently. Frank Suarez, Executive Director of OLG, expressed his elation over the chance by saying that the residents and visitors would able to use a world-class sports wagering platform through the release of FanDuel.
Suarez emphasized that FanDuel’s introduction to the market not only delivers a dependable and user-friendly sports betting experience to the nation’s capital but also ensures a steady stream of revenue earmarked for essential city programs.
Anyone from the District who wants to wager on sports must be at least 18 years old to legally gamble. A two-block radius around Class A facilities, including the Nationals Park, Capital One Arena, Sports Arena, St. Elizabeths East Entertainment, and Audi Field, will be the only area where mobile wagering is not affected.
The White House, the Capitol, the Congressional office buildings, East Potomac Park, the National Mall, and Rock Creek Park are among the federal properties that are prohibited from gambling.
