Oddschecker strengthens its foothold in the Italian market by acquiring SuperScommesse for €19.8m ($21.5m), complementing partnerships with La Gazzetta dello Sport and DAZN. The move leverages SuperScommesse’s proven local expertise, contributing to Oddschecker’s expansion strategy. Additionally, the acquisition enhances Oddschecker’s affiliate network, Confido Network, showcasing the company’s commitment to strategic growth in the Italian market.
Oddschecker, a UK-based odds comparison website, is firmly establishing itself in Italy. To enhance its current collaborations with La Gazzetta dello Sport newspaper and streaming service DAZN, the company has acquired the Italian affiliate SuperScommesse.
In an attempt to leave the market, SuperScommesse’s previous owner, Catena Media, disclosed on Tuesday that it had sold its Italian operations for €19.8 million ($21.5 million). According to Catena, those companies made €7.8 million ($8.5 million) in revenue in the 12 months ending in September 2023.
Oddschecker explained how it intended to use SuperScommesse after the announcement, citing its “deep local expertise.” According to the statement, a recognizable and reliable local-language brand is paired with a team that has demonstrated its ability to drive consistent market growth.
Additionally, Oddschecker affirmed that the acquisition will strengthen its affiliation with the Confido Network. This affiliate network was established this month with “an elite team of digital marketing experts” and a combined 35 years of experience in the industry.
Oddschecker CEO Stuart Simms said SuperScommesse is “the ideal strategic complement to our Italian solid footprint. ” The website received over 650,000 visits in October 2023.
On Tuesday, the 18-month strategic review by Catena came to a close, during which it made several sale deals on its Italian operating unit.
Catena Media reached deals with Oddschecker and another unknown buyer for €19.8 million. The statement shows that one transaction has already been finalized, while the next will be completed by December 2023.
These transactions have culminated in the end of Catena Media’s strategic review that commenced in May 2022 and its departure from Italy. Since then, Catena has disposed of assets worth €76.0 million, the latter being the €45.0 million sale of AskGamblers to GiG on December 15, 2022.
An adjustment had been made to concentrate more on operationally stable markets, chiefly in the Americas. Catena said it would reduce its leverage ratio by channelling the sale proceeds.
